Problem with Novak Super Sport Brushless ESC
I finally fixed my rustler and I was excited to finally run it annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, I pop the battery in, connect it up, hit the on switch on the ESC and nothing happens. Absolutely nothing happens. No lights, the esc just does not turn on. Instead it just heats up when on so I have disconnected the battery and now I do not know what I should do to fix it. Can anybody help me fix this thing since its finally summertime and my car doesn't work! The truck ran just fine a few days ago when I ran it but today it just doesn't want to work. I am pretty sure it is not the battery too since they have been just fine too.

Check battery polarity and that nothing is shorting. When my brother mixed up his XRS leads the same thing happended, and when my servo wires shorted my mamba 25 also did the same thing.

RE: Problem with Novak Super Sport Brushless ESC
Well now when I try it I noticed that all the lights on speed control come on and then they slowly go out and thats all that happens. I just looked at the wires and it is how it should be, red to red black to black so I don't think battery polarity is the problem.
But I did notice this just now but I don't see how this is the problem. I look at the batteries and the + side of the battery is connected to a red white and the - part is connected to a black wire which is the opposite of what I am used to. I'm sure that the black on the speed control means + and the red means -. Could that be the problem? I think I might have soldered on the deans incorrectly. But I don't see how this could be a problem since I have used this same setup for quite some time before this problem started.
Also I'm not sure how to check that anything is shorting.
EDIT: I was wrong about the wires on the speed control as black does mean - and red means + on both the batteries and the speed control so that can't be the problem.

It sure sounds like a short. Do you have a fan? A wire with the insulation worn off?

Same thing happened to me with one of the Novak SS systems I purchased on ebay. The seller had inadvertantly soldered the DEANS plug on in the opposite polarity. My batteries are all wired in the standard fashion, but his were reversed.
When I plugged it in and switched it on, NO ACTIVITY. Just the ESC heatsink got very warm... Luckily, It was only connected for a few seconds before I realized the problem. I corrected the polarity and the ESC worked JUST fine.
I imagine if you've had it connected in reverse polarity by accident, you could very well have damaged the ESC.

Yeah, I felt pretty dumb after this... Moral of the story, CHECK THE POLARITY!! Always. Especially on USED stuff.

A short is a connection that shouldnt be there. Check to see if any of the servo or esc wires are smooshed together so that the insides are making contact.

It sounds like a polarity problem; I've had the exact same thing happen a few times when i bought used stuff with deans already soldered on.

I don't have a fan but I guess you can say some of the wires are slightly worn. There are some tears but they don't look as if they expose enough to cause a short and the area where the deans are soldered on there is a little bit of wire showing but there is electrical tape covering up the rest of it.
Also the thing has worked fine with the deans for awhile it's just out of complete randomness where it stopped working which is why I dont think its teh polarity of the batteries causing the problem. I thought that if polarity was the problem then it would show up the first time I tried to run it not the 20th.....

^^^^
Thanks I'm going to give that a shot. If that doesn't work I'm probably going to go ahead and try to trade this truck for a nitro. I just tried to put the stock ESC back in to run it because I'm desperate to drive a 1/10th scale truck (the vendetta is fun but not for driving over the bigger stuff) and the on/off switch just came off in my hands. Looks like a hpi firestorm is in my future..........
